Abstract

The article addresses the issues related to methods of analyzing the figurative meanings of action verbs in English. It is noted that structural analysis is a progressive step in the development of new research methods, since this method is the most accurate. It contains a trace of the creative personality of the scientist. In any case, this method reveals itself in a different way, allowing the author to fill in and deepen analysis with your technique. In direct meaning analysis, the main goal is to determine the specifics of each verb different from the rest of the semantic group. Analysis of derivatives and figurative values continues by examining how these differences are involved in the formation of figurative meanings. All figurative meanings are formed on the basis of the meanings of the verbs of physical action. In them, to a greater or lesser extent, the SEMs of the flow and direction of movement in space and time are shaded.
