Abstract

This article analyzes the views of Mahmudkhoja Behbudi and Is’hoqkhoja Ibrat on modern education as reflected in their travel memoirs. As prominent figures of the Jadid movement in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, both scholars visited various foreign countries where they studied the progress made in education, publishing, libraries, theaters, and healthcare institutions. They firmly believed that it was necessary to implement these progressive ideas in Turkestan and thus contributed to the development of textbooks, the opening of modern schools, and the establishment of national journalism. The article employs comparative and analytical methods to examine their travel writings, uncovering their forward-thinking educational ideas. Behbudi and Ibrat considered education to be a powerful tool for overcoming ignorance and achieving national enlightenment. Their legacy remains relevant today and can serve as a valuable foundation for the ongoing educational reforms in modern Uzbekistan.
