This article studies the etymological analysis of the words foot and oyoq, which are the nuclear lexemes of the concepts "FOOT/OYOQ" in in English and Uzbek from linguistic, historical and cultural perspectives. The structural components of the concept, their internal forms, and historical evolution are examined. The origins of the words “foot” and “oyoq”, their semantic expansion, and changes are discussed. The English term “foot” traces back to the Proto-Indo-European root and has represented various meanings over centuries, such as a unit of measurement and a part of the human body. In Uzbek, the term “oyoq” originates from ancient Turkic languages, reflecting the influence of diverse cultural and social factors on its development.
The article also highlights the poetic and metaphorical uses of “oyoq” in Alisher Navoi’s works and ancient Turkic texts. The comparative analysis of the concepts demonstrates that the semantics of “foot/oyoq” are rooted in the physical object, while also conveying ideal and symbolic meanings such as support, movement, and foundation
