Abstract

This article discusses the concept of "mother tongue" as a scientific term used in both a broad and narrow sense. In a broad sense, the term can be associated with the concept of a language family, representing a language or a group of related languages. In a narrower context, it refers to the primary influence on a child's speech during the early stages of language acquisition, viewed as the first manifestation of social influence on the child's speech. The article, based on foreign studies, demonstrates that both the language and the characteristics of the family play a crucial role in shaping the child's speech. It also highlights aspects of the issue that can be applied to Uzbek linguistics.
