Although semantics, as a distinct field of linguistics, has existed only since the end of the last century, the question of what constitutes the meaning of linguistic signs has always attracted the attention of linguists. Such interest is natural, as the relationship between form and meaning in language is one of the eternal and global problems of linguistics.
