Abstract

This article analyzes the forms and functions of modal verbs in Old, Middle, and Modern English from a diachronic perspective. The study examines the morphological and semantic changes of modal verbs from Old English to Modern English. The research findings contribute to a deeper understanding of the history of the English language and their application in language teaching.
