Abstract

This article analyzes the nature and functions of antonomasia as a stylistic method of the language from a linguistic perspective. The use of proper nouns in English literature, their interaction with cognates and the processes of transition are discussed. Within the framework of the study, the structural and semantic features of antonomasia, its types and main stylistic functions - characteristic and emotional expressiveness - are separately considered. The article reveals the grammatical and semantic peculiarities of proper nouns in language and speech, their importance in creating an image and expressing an idea in literary works.
