Abstract

It turned out that one of the important factors in the economic development of Samarkand region depends on the proper organization of irrigation in the region. The article identifies the reforms in the field of irrigation in the Samarkand region by the Russian Empire in the second half of the XIX – early XX centuries, statistics on water resources, types of land structure, land ownership, changes in the management of the irrigation system. The impact of changes and innovations made by the Russian administration in this area during the historical period, when the region was renamed Zarafshan okrug and later Samarkand region, was also assessed.
