The article discusses the concept of situational forensic examination, the tasks of situational ballistic examinations, the differences and tasks of this type of examination from diagnostic ballistic examination, the objects and subject of the study of situational forensic ballistic examination, issues of quality and completeness of materials submitted when appointing this type of forensic examination. The tasks of determining the location of the shooter from firearms were investigated, based on the results of the analysis of scientific works of industry specialists and forensic expert practice, the circumstances (algorithm of expert actions) that must be performed to solve issues to be solved in the forensic ballistic examination of this type were recommended. Taking into account the specifics of situational forensics, a method of sighting was proposed to determine the direction of firing using a mirror.
