Abstract

This article discusses relevant terms in science: competence, lexical competence, and professional-lexical competence. The author describes existing points of view on the definition of competence and lexical competence. Active methods of developing foreign language lexical competence as the linguistic basis of professional and communicative competence of students at a non-linguistic university are also considered.
