The article describes the political process in the Kokand Khanate on the eve of the invasion of Tsarist Russia into the Central Asian khanates, and in this context, the activities of Muhammad Yakub are considered before he received the name Yakubbek Badavlat. The development of Muhammad Yakub as a person and his ascent from the lower ranks to the level of head of state is covered. It turned out that Yakubbek Badavlat was an influential politician and military leader.
