Abstract

The article is dedicated to a comparative analysis of the legal profession systems in Japan and Germany, with a focus on mechanisms for ensuring the accessibility of legal assistance and maintaining attorney-client privilege. The evolution of the legislative foundations of the legal profession in Japan is examined, starting with the adoption of the first legal acts, as well as the role of the Japan Federation of Bar Associations and the system of legal clinics in providing free legal aid. Legislative aspects of attorney-client privilege in Germany are analyzed, including its regulation under the Code of Professional Ethics for Lawyers and the EU General Data Protection Regulation. Key differences and similarities between the approaches of both countries to protecting citizens' interests are identified, including the use of digital technologies and state funding. The article emphasizes the importance of attorney-client privilege as the foundation of trustful relations between lawyers and clients and highlights the challenges associated with the digitalization of legal practice in modern society.
