The article analyzes the foreign policy of Afghanistan's Emir Abdurrahman Khan during the "Great Game" between Russia and Great Britain in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The main focus is on the Emir's balanced approach based on realpolitik. The study, conducted using the Emir's memoirs and foreign sources, reveals that his policy served to preserve Afghanistan's sovereignty. The article's novelty lies in examining the Emir's policy within the framework of realpolitik for the first time and interpreting it as a geopolitical model for small states.
