It explores the emergence of the field in response to post-World War II needs and highlights the pivotal role of UNESCO in its formation. The study emphasizes key conceptual shifts, including the transition from state-centered protection of tangible assets to a more inclusive, human rights-based approach that encompasses intangible heritage and cultural diversity.
