This article offers an in-depth media-linguistic analysis of the podcast The Last Cup (NPR & Futuro Studios). The study examines the podcast’s distinctive discourse features—its bilingual presentation, the affordances of the audio medium, and its narrative-journalism style. The Last Cup, which chronicles Lionel Messi’s journey to his final World Cup while interweaving the immigrant experience and host Jasmine Garsd’s personal story, is analyzed through the lenses of media linguistics and podcast discourse studies. Focusing on linguistic devices, pragmatic strategies, communicative techniques, and audio-aesthetic elements, the article provides a close episode-by-episode breakdown of structure, language use, and multimodal components (voice, music, sound effects). It also explores how the podcast establishes a “dialogue” with listeners and cultivates a sense of authenticity. The study situates The Last Cup within contemporary sports journalism and intercultural sports discourse, highlighting its contribution to narrative sports media and intercultural communication.
