Abstract

Relevance: Myocarditis during pregnancy is a high-risk condition because of substantial maternal and fetal risks and the diagnostic challenges posed by physiological gestational changes and the spread of viral infections such as COVID-19.

Objective: To summarize current data on the etiology, diagnosis, and management of myocarditis in pregnant women, with the aim of optimizing clinical management.

Materials and Methods: A review of recent scientific publications and clinical guidelines focusing on the interdisciplinary management of affected pregnant patients.

Results: The review presents data on etiopathogenesis (predominantly viral), variable clinical presentations, modern diagnostic methods (echocardiography, cardiac MRI, and biomarkers), and treatment principles, emphasizing the importance of an individualized approach and risk stratification.

Conclusion: Timely diagnosis and multidisciplinary management are key to improving maternal and perinatal outcomes.
