This article explores the general concept and significance of the methodology of teaching history in general secondary schools. The author emphasizes the need to develop students’ historical thinking and foster a critical and independent approach to studying historical events. The study includes an analysis of both domestic and international experiences, particularly the approaches of Peter Seixas, Sirkka Ahonen, Robert Thorp, and others. The relevance of applying research-based teaching methods and innovative pedagogical technologies is justified. Special focus is given to the teacher’s role in generating student interest and enhancing analytical thinking through history education.
