Право ребенка на генеалогию, то есть право ребенка знать о своих предках, считается важным общечеловеческим правом и ценностью. Потому что каждый имеет право строить жизненный путь, зная, кто его предки, опираться на свое прошлое, гордиться своими предками и на этой основе строить свое будущее. Происхождение является одним из критериев, используемых для выбора имени и фамилии человека. Кроме того, родословная оказывает определенное влияние на вступление в семейные отношения. Также знание родословной ребенка играет важную роль в определении его родственных связей и на этой основе в определении его прав и обязанностей с его родственниками.
