Abstract

This article explores the principles for transliterating macrocity toponyms, with a focus on preserving their linguistic, phonetic, and cultural features. The study analyzes the application of international standards such as ISO 9 and BGN/PCGN in city-name transliteration and discusses the challenges of adapting these standards to the phonetic system of Uzbek. Special attention is given to balancing national identity with global recognizability. The findings underscore the significance of Uzbek toponymy in international communication and cartography and offer insights into the standardization and harmonization of transliteration practices.
